Modern Pilsners Beer Packaging
When a master brewer decides to explore unique ingredients from around the world, the can should tell the story too.
Aaron Dahl, Head Brewer at Golden Age Beer, is a master of lagers which makes him a master of crisp, subtle and nuanced flavors. So when he decided to explore contemporary varieties of hops from around the world for a new line of Modern Pilsners, we decided to have the labels take a trip too.
Inspired by mid-century travel posters, the first group of lagers took us from the Pacific coast of America, to the the lush Germanic region of Alsace in France, and finally to Slovenia. I created style template that allowed the artwork to be featured in multiple formats; a wide, colorful, wraparound label as well as a portrait oriented poster, perfect for social media or hanging on the wall of the tap room. I also illustrated a unique glass shape for each poster, reminiscent of mid-century advertising.
One last element, was stylish information matrix denoting the beer’s place in the series, as well as important information like ABV and a spot for a handwritten “canned on” date so you know that the crowler you take home is fresh.
This presentation was so successful we carried it over to the Oktoberfest brew which, while not a pilsner, fit with world-traveling theme.
